Theory

Our theory courses or shorebased, as they are commonly referred, are structured to compliment your training on the water. The theory courses provide an opportunity for would be skippers and crew to learn about subjects such as navigation and meteorology. These principles are best taught in the classroom. The full value of our theory courses is only realized by applying the skills and knowledge learnt in the classroom to practical situations on board a vessel. That is why our instructors apart from covering all the theory component, will endeavor constantly to refer to practical situations.

We offer the full range of theory courses under the RYA syllabus. Basic Navigation and Safety Course, Day Skipper Theory, Coastal/Yachtmaster Theory and Yachtmaster Ocean Theory. Whether you needs are for going out for an afternoon or wanting to cross an ocean, our theory courses on offer can fulfill your needs.

Our shorebased courses can be run to suit your time needs. We are very flexible. Our time structure for doing these courses can be structured to meet your needs. The Basic Navigation and Safety Course has to be completed within a sixteen hour period, while Day Skipper, Coastal/Yachtmaster and Yachtmaster Ocean require forty hours of tuition. The most popular option for many candidates is over Fri/Sat/Sun and Sat/Sun. There candidates that undertake to complete these theory courses over a five day consecutive period.
