This course is not for the beginner, therefore the suggested requirement of two days as skipper. This is an advanced course for those with considerable knowledge of sailing and navigation. It is the highest level of non-tidal course under the RYA scheme. The aim of Coastal Skipper is to teach the skills and techniques required to skipper a cruising yacht safely on coastal and offshore passages by day and night within the Mediterranean. We will undertake one long night passage and bring you to faraway, unspoilt destinations.
We cover advanced techniques in boat handling, crew management, watch systems and interpretation of weather charts. After achieving your Coastal Skipper the world is your oyster. The RYA certification is world recognized and will enable you to charter in many places.
Course: Coastal skipper practical
Suggested minimum pre course experience: 15 days sea time (2 days as skipper)/ 300 miles/ 8 night hours
Assumed knowledge: Navigation to Coastal Skipper Shore based standard. Sailing to Day Skipper Practical standard
Course content: Skippering techniques for coastal and offshore passages
Ability after course: Skipper a yacht on coastal passages by day and night
Minimum duration: 5 days
Course competition certificate: Coastal Skipper
The minimum age limit for issue of a certificate is 18.
